Lively Run Goat Dairy was founded in Interlaken, a small town in New York’s Finger Lakes District, in 1982 by the Feldman family. It was NY State’s first commercial goat dairy. In 1995, Susanne and Steven Messmer apprenticed briefly with the Feldman’s before purchasing and taking over the dairy and cheesemaking business. The farm is approximately 20 acres and the goat herd is made up of around 100 Alpine, Saanen, Nubian, and African Boer goats. The Messmers makes fresh chevre, both plain and a variety of flavors, feta, and their signature blue cheese.
